On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The next day Congress passed and President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a declaration of war on Japan, marking America’s entry into World War II.
